Organic Barlett Pears and White Peach Baby Purée

A new school year just started, and we’re slowly coming back to our daily routines – work, cooking, school homework, grocery shopping…

My young daughter was particularly excited to begin school again, reconvening with her friends, and of course, impatient for what the new school year will bring. It is always exciting. The beginning of school also requires (for us parents) keeping food in rotation. We’re in a constant quest for new, easy, natural food combinations to share with our young ones, not only for their homemade daily meals, but also for their school lunch bags.  This summer, as I mentioned a while ago, we traveled for a few days to Seattle.  Welcomed by the abundance of produce, natural ingredients, locally grown fruits, vegetables and wines – we felt so lucky – to be able to enjoy all of these offerings, while cooking right from the locals.

Oh! speaking of natural fruits… white peaches (at least here in the south) have been available almost everywhere. Delicate, soft, juicy, with great aroma and not too sweet. Barlett pears with tones of reds (which you will certainly find in organic markets until October), is a favorite at home. Combining them gives you this smoothie, pearly, and refreshing baby purée.

Homemade Organic Barlett Pears and White Peach Baby Purée

Serves: 4
  • 4 White Organic Peaches, peeled, pitted and evenly chopped
  • 2 Organic Barlett Pears, peeled, cored and evenly chopped
  • ½ squeezed lemon
  • Vanilla bean (optional) to flavor
  1. Steam pears and peaches for less than 5 minutes, until tender. Mix in a hand food blender (or blender of your choice) until smooth. Add a little water from the steamer to thin, only if need be. Squeeze out a few drops of lemon to taste. You may add a few specks of vanilla bean to flavor. If you wish.
