We just returned from a few days in Whistler, a jewel of a town just north of Vancouver. It was our second trip to this gorgeous region; I told you about our first trip during our school’s winter break.
Surrounded by spectacular mountains and their breathtaking peaks, it is a place with pure mountain air, green lakes, open lifts and enclosed gondolas that take you up to high altitudes, where stress doesn’t exist. Although many think of Whistler as a ski destination, locals often say that they live in Whistler all winter just to enjoy its summer.
I brought my camera along. A loyal companion to help me document the beauty and memories we brought back with us. Whistler is above all a family destination, where young ones and old alike share the excitement of enjoying the outdoor activities it offers. Being in these mountains is a reminder of the peace and silence we instantly feel as we retreat from the excessive noise we are bombarded by every day in urban life.
We took long walks, canoed, hiked, biked and enjoyed the local restaurants, which are known for their fabulous cuisine.
Seasonally focused menus celebrate the excellence of locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Local chefs source their ingredients daily from the Pemberton Valley, just 25 minutes from town. We were thrilled to meet some of the local chefs, proudly explaining their farm-to-table philosophy and their partnership with local farmers, fishermen and ranchers.
I’m sure some of you have already visited Whistler, but if you haven’t, consider it for your next family vacation. You will be surely go back time and again.
We hope to return to beautiful British Columbia sometime in the winter. Until then, I’m fully inspired to return to my cooking and baking as I indulge my loved ones, and to share with you the meals we so much enjoy at home. Be back soon!
